Phil and Sebastian - Marda Loop location
My visit out to Calgary was a trip to visit family. This means I wasn’t out on my own running all over to visit a ton of coffee shops or anything. I did however find time to visit one and I made sure it was a good one. I walked from where we were staying over to the Marda Loop location of Phil and Sebastian in Calgary.
Phil and Sebastian is a roaster local to Calgary that started in 2007. I believe Marda Loop was their first retail location outside of a farmers market. It’s a nice store with a long coffee bar along one side and tables along the other. You place your orders up front and pick up your drink at the back. It’s a bit of an odd layout but given the total space they had to work with I think it works pretty well. I ordered an iced americano and my wife got the iced chai as we had just walked a good distance in the heat. Both were really good even if iced drinks aren't my normal order. I also purchase a bag of beans to take home. I picked up the Panama Hartmann Pacamara Natural at the suggestion of the amazing staff working the front of the store and she was correct it was a great choice.
Accessibility wise this location is quite good. Pathways are reasonably wide and clear and the front counter isn’t too high up either. There are two wheelchair accessible washrooms at the back as well. The only thing really missing was an automatic opener on the front door.
If you’re in Calgary and want to hit up a good coffee place with knowledgeable staff and a nice atmosphere then you can’t really go wrong with Phil and Sebastian
